Q: Ann tell us about yourself. Where were you born etc?
A: I was born in Nelson, New Zealand and lived there for the first 17 and a half years of my life before moving to Palmerston North. It was here that I met my husband. We have two children, both married, and fivegrandchildren who keep us young. We currently live in a small town in
the Wairarapa district of New Zealand.
Q: What or who got you interested in books and especially romantic novels.
A: My mother was always reading romantic novels and this sparked my interest in them. I don't remember how old I was when I read my first romance, but it was fairly early in my teens. I guess it didn't hurt that when I was younger I had a lending library right across the road from our house and I could indulge my passion for books whenever I liked.Q: How did you hear about Romance Writers of New Zealand?
A: Through Robyn Donald. She put me in touch with Jean Drew and the rest is history. I have been a member of RWNZ since 1993 and since that time have served as Vice President, Treasurer and President as well as helping out on the conference committee.
Q: When did you start writing?
A: I can remember always loving to write stories, but the time I remember it becoming a serious passion was at school. My short story essays
became pages and pages of story. This was not appreciated by my
teachers. They were continually telling me to stick to writing what
I was told and not expand the stories all the time.
Q: Did you ever think about giving up when you received a rejection letter?
A: No. It never crossed my mind. Writing is what I do, a rejectionletter just spurs me on to prove the editors wrong and that my story
is worth publishing.
Q: When was your first book accepted and with which publisher?
A: My first hook was accepted in 1999 with e-publisher New Concepts
Publishing.
Q: Why e-publishing?
A: I had tried the normal publishing route and the rejections always said
"Too many characters" "too many subplots". E-publishing was willing to
take my books with all there characters and plots.
Q: How did you learn about e-publishing?
A: It was at a Romance Writers of New Zealand conference. Daphne
Clair had a copy of her book that had just been e-published. I
talked to her about this new scheme and realised that this could be
the pathway for me. I contacted NCP and they asked me to send
my story to them. Alongside Daphne I became one of the first
e-published authors in New Zealand.
Q: I know you said your books are e-published are they in print and if so where can I buy them?
A: Yes they are in print. They are available onwww.whiskeycreekpress.com
We would love to hear from you
